UBS Names Veteran Industrial Banker Bouvier as ESG Advisory Head

(Bloomberg) —

UBS Group AG named veteran industrial deal-maker Laurent Bouvier as global head of a newly formed environmental, social and governance advisory team.

Bouvier’s group will apply an ESG lens to deal pitching and execution and support clients’ sustainability strategies through acquisitions and capital-markets work, according to an internal memo seen by Bloomberg News. The banker, who joined UBS in 2015 and was previously co-head of the global industries group, will also become GIG chairman, the memo shows.

A representative for UBS confirmed the contents of the memo.

Bouvier worked with Hitachi Ltd. on its takeover of ABB Ltd.’s power grid unit and was among advisers to Advent and Cinven on their $19 billion acquisition of the Thyssenkrupp AG elevators business. He also helped Bombardier Inc. on the sale of its transportation division to Alstom SA.

Philippe Chryssicopoulos will become global co-head of GIG alongside Charles Otton, according to the memo. Chryssicopoulos was previously global head of infrastructure and power at the bank.

Armin Peter and Samantha Sutcliffe, who have been driving UBS’s sustainable-finance efforts since 2019, will keep their roles on the newly formed ESG team, according to the memo.
